Cora turned 17 months yesterday and I think it's safe to say she is finally walking. She's not walking around the block or anything but she's definitely taking steps and can walk across the room if she wants to. She's pretty much on the same path as Maya was just a few weeks earlier. Maya walked right around 18 months. I haven't been at all worried because I knew she'd walk when she was ready just like her big sister.
Wow 17 months...Cora is becoming less baby and much more toddler. And let me just say she is a wild lady. She is a hitter, a thrower, and a climber. All things we never dealt with for Maya. We are trying to work on "gentle" touches and not throwing things. But this whole climbing thing this is what has been driving me the most nuts. She will drag a chair to anywhere and climb on it and then pull herself up to get into anything and everything and pull down what she can. (And we thought she was going to be our "calm" one. Nope she's completely challenging in a whole different way.) The joys of parenthood!
She is starting to talk more and more which is fun. She calls Maya - Yaya. She loves to say "thank you" when you give her something. She likes to wave good bye when someone is leaving or when she is going up to bed. She can say "blankie" which she is still pretty attached to. Anytime she sees a dog or someone mentions a doggie or if you ask what a dog says she'll say "woof woof." Cora refers to all food as "banana" but she also knows how to say "snack" and is never too far away from her little snack cup. She can say "water" and usually has that in sight as well. She still won't drink milk but likes yogurt and cheese. When it's time to eat she will say "seat" and she knows we'll get her in her little booster seat and the food will be coming soon. Anyway it's fun to hear her start to say words. She's a smart little lady and if we ask her to go do something or get something she usually knows what we're asking her to get or do. She likes to give hugs and kisses and she has really been into playing with babies lately. I don't remember Maya playing with babies this early but she also didn't have an older sister who was playing with them either. For the most part she continues to be a good sleeper and is a happy, sweet girl.
But like I said she explores and gets into everything! I found her today going through this drawer that has my recipes and cookbooks in it. Maya never even tried to open these drawers when she was this age. It may be time for some child safety locks but I was hoping to avoid those because they are so annoying. But I'm not sure what is more annoying the safety locks or Cora getting into everything all the time.
And earlier this week she had a little run in with some of Maya's markers. Again they were on the table but she climbed up and got them and drew on her face with black and she used orange on the back of her head. Cora certainly keeps us on our toes and if it's ever a little too quiet we know to go and investigate to see what she's gotten into next. Did we mention her favorite is getting into the bathroom and taking all the toilet paper off the roll? Too fun! Love this little lady and can't believe she is already 17 months!
